Using Video In Class

I’ve argued previously in many articles and interviews that video is the new “text” for language teachers. It should become the primary material in our language-centered classrooms. I still stand by this and you can hear some of my arguments for the primacy of video as material in this online presentation.

But in summary, I advocate video as a teaching material because it brings us back to language as it should be learned, by the ear, not the eye. Further, it’s abundant and free to access. It’s well-produced as it’s mostly authentic and produced for other purposes (music videos, commercials etc …). Video has affordances other materials don’t – back it up , repeat, snip, edit, remix and more … So many other reasons but I’ll stop here.

What I would like to do is offer teachers the resources I’ve produced to help them use video in their classrooms. Handbooks, best lists, video reporting sheets, exercises, templates …. Click and go to ELT Buzz Video Lessons and find the download links on the teacher resources page. Enjoy using video! I also hope the 1,000s of expertly chosen “best” videos on the platform inspire your teaching.
